[B]Petition signing for marine monument[/B]

Friends of the Marianas Trench Marine Monument will be at the Sabalu Market starting at 9am and at Price Costco starting at 10am Saturday, July 26, to provide information on the proposed Marianas Trench monument, and to collect signatures in its support. Be informed! People are encouraged to come, ask questions, sign the petition! (PR)

[B]Live fire training on FDM[/B]

The U.S. military will be conducting live fire training on the northern island of Farallon de Mendenilla from July 28 through Aug.1, between 9am and 7pm.

Due to the danger imposed by this activity, the Emergency Management Office advises the public— especially fishermen, commercial pilots and marine tour operators—to avoid the Farallon de Mendenilla Training Area on a 10 nautical mile radius on all quadrants.

Any questions should be directed to the EMO Operations Section at 322-9528 and 322-9529, VHF MARINE CHNL 16 and HF Single Side Band Radio on 5.205.0. (EMO)

[B]Tinian Peace Ceremony to mark 6th year[/B]

Preparations are now underway for the 6th annual Tinian Nagasaki Hiroshima Peace Ceremony that will be held Aug. 6, the anniversary of the 1945 American atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Japan by the Enola Gay, which took off from the island of Tinian.

Scheduled events for the ceremony include a Sounding of the Sirens at 9:15am at the Children’s Peace Monument that will coincide with the moment of silence at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony in Japan (9:15 am is the local time the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima). A special multi-faith prayer for peace is also scheduled for the morning portion of the peace ceremony. An evening candlelight vigil featuring performances of peace songs and poetry by community members will be held at 7pm on the night of the ceremony. (PR)
