Doromal visits Saipan again
Human rights advocate Wendy L. Doromal will soon return to Saipan for a vacation and to meet local alien workers.
Doromal and her daughter, who are based in Florida, are expected to arrive on the island today at 1:30am.
Human Dignity Movement president Jerry Custodio said they would hold a welcome party for Doromal and her daughter Nani Saturday at Garapan Central Park at 6pm.
Custodio noted that while here for vacation, Doromal also plans to meet foreign national workers on Saipan, Tinian and Rota.
He said Doromal is interested in interviewing any worker with special concerns and problems with respect to their immigration status and other labor issues.
Custodio is inviting alien workers of all nationalities to attend the “pot luck party.”
“Doromal has been helping the nonresident workers attain improved immigration status and social justice,” Custodio said.
Rabby Sayed, president of Saipan Taxi Association, encouraged all Bangladeshi, Nepalese, Sri Lankan and Indian nationals to participate in the event.
The Human Dignity Movement, the Coalition of United Workers and the Bangladeshi community are organizing the party.
In December 2007 Doromal flew from Florida to join the Unity March organized by then Representative-elect Tina Sablan. Doromal then launched a letter writing campaign to press U.S. Congress the act on the call for improved immigration status for long-term alien workers in the CNMI.
