BSML names statistical leaders
Komoro’s Kim Jae Young and Korean Dreams’ John M. Reyes finished what they started and were named the strikeout and batting kings, respectively, of the 2008 Budweiser Saipan Major League.
In a list submitted by BSML statistician Joe Lizma, Kim recorded the most strikeouts in the 2008 season of the BSML with 114, followed by Korean Dreams’ Shane Mendiola’s 96.
Reyes, for his part, went 27-for-59 for the season to finish with a .457 batting average.
Rock Steady’s Manny Sablan, Tyrone Omar, Kim, and Falcons’ Mike Pangelinan complete the Top 5 in batting with averages of .434, .428, .428, and .422, respectively.
Pangelinan and Ford Rangers’ Benwachi Taisacan were also named the homerun champs of the 2008 BSML season after the duo recorded two apiece.
In triples, Taisacan and Korean Dreams’ Jason Reyes had four each, followed by John Reyes and Rock Steady’s Nick San Nicolas with three apiece.
In doubles, Manny Sablan was without peer with five, while O’Conner Tigers’ Ton Pangelinan, Rock Steady’s Toi Celis, and Komoro’s Jang Ju Hyuk finished with four apiece.
Omar had the most plate-crossing in the 2008 BSML season with 26 runs, followed by Korean Dreams’ Justin Reyes with 24.
In RBIs, D-9ers’ John Tenorio beat out Manny Sablan after winding up with 17 as against the Rock Steady catcher’s 15.
In ERA, Rock Steady’s 1-2 punch of Ton Palacios and Nick San Nicolas paced the category with 0.45 and 0.81, respectively. The two were followed by Rangers teammates Pete Tenorio (1.50) and Mel Sakisat (1.91).
