The youth speaks out
The article that Ed Propost has written about a few crises that Fitial and CUC are experiencing is hilarious. I thank you for writing that magnificent piece of article. It made me realize what has been going on. At first, all I knew was that our governor was threatening to sue the U.S. government. As a teenager, I have other things to focus on, but as I hear my parents complain about the power outages and how the lawsuit will affect the CNMI, I started to read the newspapers more often instead of just the zodiac section. As I go on, I’ve discovered so many dismaying news, including the fact that you signed a contract with Aggreko instead of Lohrman, which costs less. Mr. Propst has written so many articles that he may possibly be right, but the article that he wrote on June 27, 2008 really surprised me. It was pragmatic, a well-written article. Mr. Fitial, why have you decided to threaten the US government? I find it ironic. Instead of being prodigal and using the tax money for the lawsuit, try focusing on sending out the stimulus to the people who have not receive them yet. The government uses our tax money for their needs, so why use it for something that our people are against like suing the federal government?
The government is all about “we the people,” not just the governor and the government. Instead of using that money for something that will just destroy us, why don’t you use if for something that will brighten the future for the students, like sending the money to the scholarship programs here in the CNMI.
Another crisis that has been going on is the power outages here. It’s irritating to have our power go off twice a day for two months. How will my parents who earn minimum wages be able to pay that off? All the money goes to the CUC billings and the gas for our car. I know that others have been going through the problem as well. We are not able to support each other by buying food. I’m tired of soba and canned food. It’s not only Mr. Propst who has been receiving busy signals, clueless operators, or hang-ups; we have gotten them too, so as many others. Mr. Propst has stated “have a person record the problem and update it every half and hour on an automated answering machine so we won’t be left in the dark.”
Also, we have been receiving generous amounts of money from the U.S. government to help us build a better community but what would happen if they turn against us because of your doing, Mr. Fitial? Have you thought about that? Please scrutinize your every action because it will affect the people greatly. I’m appealing to you not to sue the federal government. I’m too overwhelmed by what is going on. What happened to the promise you made? “Better times?” I think not. Please take time to listen to the people here in the CNMI before you create more damaging effects here.
Please try to understand my presumptuous words. I was just moved to express myself, thanks to Mr. Edward Propst. Now I’m asking others to express themselves, like I have.
