Vendors ask for more funding from PSS
The Public School System is now working on coming up with a solution for approximately six vendors that provide food to both public and private schools and are asking
The vendors are asking the Public School System to give them more funds.
Vendors need to know the information now, so that they can prepare for the following school year. Such preparations that they need to do includes purchasing and ordering goods so that they can be ready and organized for the next school year.
“The PSS is trying its best to get the final decision, to get it as soon as possible. In the next following days, we will have more information and we will let the vendors know,” said PSS acting commissioner Craig Garrison.
Increased fuel cost and power outages have negatively affected the vendors, who are incurring added costs not only in cooking the meals but also for transportation.
One vendor on Tinian has reportedly decided to quit its contract with PSS unless they were to get more funding.
“Of course, I (and I’m sure the others) feel very discourage with the increased fuel prices and groceries. The company has made some changes for the new school year, but we really do not profit much from what PSS is currently paying us,” said Ernel Rubio from Barny’s Pizza.
Barny’s Pizza serves approximately 1,400 lunch meals each school day. They provide food to the Seventh Day Adventist School, San Antonio Elementary School, Marianas High School, and San Antonio Head Start.
“We need two months ahead of time to prepare, we have been conservative with what we are serving now. We are serving less milk, and water instead,” said one of the vendors.
The vendors, PSS, and Food and Nutrition Services will soon make a final decision regarding this matter.
