Superior Court associate judge David A. Wiseman has imposed a $50,000 cash bail on Oscar Porras Jr., the alleged driver of a getaway vehicle used in the robbery in which a female Japanese tourist was dragged several meters by a car.

Wiseman set such amount in issuing an arrest warrant on Friday for the 33-year-old Porras on charges of robbery, theft, assault with a dangerous weapon, and disturbing the peace.

A check by Saipan Tribune yesterday revealed that Porras was under the custody of the Department of Corrections.

It was not clear whether police had served him with the arrest warrant for the robbery or he failed to post bail in the other case in which he was arrested for allegedly stealing a case of beer from Grand Market.

Porras is expected to be taken to court today, Monday, in connection with the robbery case.

Porras’ cousin, Gustavo Ybanez Jr., was first arrested last week after a witness identified him as the man who grabbed the bag from the tourist along Beach Road, Garapan, on Nov. 16, Wednesday night.

Sources said Ybanez confessed to detectives that it was Porras who was the driver of their getaway vehicle-a dark-colored Nissan Pathfinder.

After the robbery, Ybanez and Porras split the $350 cash they found in the tourist’s bag. Ybanez allegedly gave $150 cash to Porras.
