Apatang urges Perry Inos’ confirmation
A Saipan lawmaker has urged the Senate to confirm the nomination of attorney Perry Inos to serve as a judge at the CNMI Superior Court.
Rep. David Apatang said Inos is “an excellent choice and a great addition to the Commonwealth’s bench.”
“I have known Perry for many years now and I can personally vouch that he is a person who exemplifies strong leadership, integrity, and character,” he said.
He said the 13 years Inos has spent practicing law in the Commonwealth makes him qualified for the post of Superior Court judge. Inos initially worked as a government prosecutor and later, entered into private practice as a defense attorney.
“In an adversarial justice system like the CNMI’s, I firmly believe that judges serving on the bench should possess the same legal experiences and insights Perry was fortunate enough to gain over the years. It is without question that these qualities have equipped Perry for the important role of being a fair and just adjudicator of law,” Apatang said.
Gov. Benigno R. Fitial has nominated Inos to replace retired Judge Juan T. Lizama. The appointment requires Senate approval.
A few days before Inos’ appointment was announced, the Tinian legislative delegation, including three senators and one representative, publicly asked the governor to nominate an attorney from Tinian. Tinian’s pool of attorneys includes Lucia Blanco-Maratita, Ramon K. Quichocho, Joey Patrick San Nicolas, and Janet H. King.
Inos has been in private practice since 1997. Before that, he worked as a teacher at Rota High School, student coordinator at the Rota campus of the Northern Marianas College, assistant attorney general for the Office of the Attorney General’s Criminal Division, and associate attorney at the law office of now Supreme Court Justice John A. Manglona.
Inos received his high school diploma from Rota High School in 1983 and graduated with a bachelor’s degree, major in business management, from the University of Guam in 1987. He attended the University of New Mexico School of Law and received his law degree in 1994.
He is married to Debra Inos and they have three children. He is the son of Rota Mayor Joseph S. Inos and nephew of Finance Secretary Eloy S. Inos.
