WASHINGTON, D.C.—Guam Delegate Madeleine Z. Bordallo welcomed Guam’s 2008 Congressional Arts Competition winner Alan San Agustin to Washington D.C. yesterday for the official ribbon cutting ceremony marking the 27th Annual Congressional Arts Competition, “An Artistic Discovery.”

San Agustin is the son of Joseph and Maria San Agustin of Barrigada and is a senior at Fr. Duenas Memorial School in Mangilao. He was joined at the ribbon cutting ceremony by his sister, Rachel.

San Agustin’s art piece, “The Legend of the Flying Proa,” won the annual competition on Guam amongst a field of 27 high school artists from five public and private schools in May.

“Alan is a very creative young artist whose talent is among the best in the nation,” Bordallo said. “His dramatic artwork will be viewed by thousands of visitors to the U.S. Capitol.”

The annual competition, titled “An Artistic Discovery” is open to every Congressional district in every state and territory in the nation. San Agustin’s art piece will be displayed in the Capitol tunnel for an entire year along with pieces from other districts. These art pieces are seen and appreciated by hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world during that time. (PR)
