Over 600 students from CNMI public high schools are expected to graduate from secondary education in June, based on the records of individual schools.

As of yesterday, all five public high schools on Saipan, Rota, and Tinian recorded a total of 643 potential graduates on their lists.

At the largest and oldest high school on island, Marianas High School, its acting principal Cherlyn Cabrera said all 233 seniors this year are expected to receive their high school diplomas on June 4.

The figure shows a decrease from last school year’s graduating figure of 260. Cabrera said the decline was due to the fact that the senior class this school year is a little smaller than previous years.

At Kagman High School, principal Alfred Ada disclosed that potential graduates are 160 this year, also a decline from previous year which registered 180 total graduates. But Ada described the figure as the “average” number of graduating seniors each year. Diplomas will be conferred to these graduates on June 6.

Saipan Southern High School, meantime, shows a slight increase in the number of graduating students this year at 175, compared to last year’s 160 students. Principal Jesse Tudela attributed the hike to the transferees from private schools as a result of economic hardship, among other reasons. Commencement ceremony is slated for them on June.

Also recording an increase of graduates this year is the Dr. Rita Hocog-Inos Jr./Sr. High School which is expected to confer diplomas to all its 43 seniors this school year.

Saipan Tribune learned that last school year, 32 students graduated from high school when the institution was still the Rota High School. Principal Sharlene Manglona said graduation is slated on June 8.

Tinian High School vice principal Eric San Nicolas told Saipan Tribune yesterday that they are expecting all 32 seniors from the school to complete the requirements this school year. This figure shows a slight decline from last school year’s 50 graduates. Diplomas will be conferred to the graduates on June 1.
