The 2008 Liberation Day Committee presented four of its candidates vying for this year’s Liberation Day Queen and Royal Court.

This year’s hopefuls are made up of first-time candidates from Marianas High School, Kagman High School, and Saipan Southern High School.

Queen’s Committee chair Tina Pangelinan, together with Saipan Mayor Juan B. Tudela, introduced Luciann Marie M. Indalecio, 15; Kaylynn Angelynn L Sablan, 16; Carley V. Laniyo, 16; and Haoting Zhang Romolor, 18, as this year’s candidates.

Tudela and Pangelinan presented the girls their sashes and their share of 500 raffle booklets during the official pinning ceremony held at the Mayor’s Conference Room yesterday.

This year’s candidates have already secured sponsors and shared that they are ready to sell as many tickets as they possibly can.

The candidate who sells the most tickets by June 25 will be crowned as the 2008 Liberation Day Queen.

“All the candidates are beautiful. But it’s not about beauty, it’s about who sells the most tickets,” Tudela said.

He added that, although it would be difficult to collect money, he has confidence in the candidates and hopes that this year’s event would be even more successful than last year’s.

According to Pangelinan, the goal is to raise up to $30,000 in tickets sold.

This year is the 62nd Liberation Day anniversary. This year also marks the 230th American Independence Day.
