PSL enters championship round
The 2008 Private School League enters its championship phase starting today with two more teams trying to earn the second finals berth in games at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
Today’s game will have the Grace Christian Academy Eagles going up against defending champion Marianas Baptist Academy Stormz in the 2pm opening contest.
The loser will earn third place while the winner moves on to face top seed and last year’s finalist Mt. Carmel School Knights in Friday’s championship scheduled at 4pm.
In the girls division, the GCA Lady Eagles will face the MBA Lady Stormz in the battle for third. The match is scheduled at 4pm today after the boys game between GCA and MBA.
Tomorrow at 2pm, defending champion and top seed Saipan International School Lady Geckos will battle the MCS Lady Knights in the finals.
The SIS-MCS game in the girls division is a rematch of last year’s finals after the Lady Geckos foiled the Lady Knights’ title bid, 44-31. The Geckos are also aiming for their third straight title in the annual PSL caging.
In the playoff round, MCS and SIS arranged another title showdown after beating GCA and MBA in the girls division, while the Knights earned the first finals berth in the boys class after defeating Calvary Christian Academy.
MBA kept its back-to-back titles hopes alive after eliminating SIS last Monday, 50-42.
Last year, MBA foiled the MCS Knights’ title bid after scoring a 57-53 upset win. MBA ended the regular season in second place with a 5-4 slate faced a tall order when they met the undefeated Knights in the finals.
