Flores RBI-single lifts Pirates past Suns
Davin Flores’ RBI-single in the bottom of the eighth drove in the winning run as the Kautz Glass Pirates rallied back for a 9-8 win over the Shell Marianas Suns in the Majors division of the Saipan Little League on Sunday at the Miguel Basa “Tan Ge” Pangelinan Field.
The win denied the Suns from snapping out of an 11-game losing slump, while the Pirates improved their chances of at least getting the last playoff spot with three play dates left in their schedule.
The Pirates hold a 5-7 slate just one game behind the Twins’ 6-7 record and 2 1/2 back from the eighth place PTI Dolphins’ 7-4 card.
Austin Deleon Guerrero connected with a lead-off double then scored when Flores slapped a single to right for the game-winning run.
Flores, Deleon Guerrero, and Frankie Camacho combined for 6-for-9 in batting with five runs, and three doubles. Flores also had two RBIs including his RBI-single in the eighth.
Kaisei Toda only went 1-for-3 but had a two-RBI double in the Pirates’ four-run sixth inning as they rallied back from a 7-3 deficit. Still trailing 8-7, in the bottom of seventh, Camacho doubled and later scored on a Frankie Norita sacrifice fly.
Camacho earned the win pitching four no-hit innings in relief giving up one earned run, fanning six batters while walking six more.
[B]Twins 24, A’s 13[/B]The Wells Fargo As Matuis Twins used a 14-run bottom of the fifth inning rally to cruise to a 24-13 triumph over the Tan Holdings Athletics A’s.
The Twins peppered the A’s bullpen combining for 19-for-33 in batting, while pitchers Darrion Jones, Ian Lizama, and M.J. Sakisat held them the Athletics to 7-for-22.
[B]Red Sox 7, Ol’Aces 2[/B]The Bank of Saipan Red Sox went 4-for-23 but scored enough runs to pull off a 7-5 triumph over the Happy Market Ol’Aces.
John Kileleman pitched 5 1/3 innings surrendering three earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and three walks to earn the win.
[B]Braves 18, Dragons 12[/B]On Saturday, R.J. Riungel lasted for four innings giving up one earned run on six hits fanning eight and walking one to lead the AA Ent./TCC World Tanapag Braves to an 18-2 demolition of the San Antonio Dragons.
Lucio Kalen, 2-for-3, had a grand slam and blasted a bases-cleaning inside-the-park home run in the Braves’ seven-run second inning. He scored twice and had four RBIs.
[B]Little Lions 18, Hustlers II 15[/B]Justin Santos and Keen Deleon Guerrero combined for 8-for-9 with six runs and two RBIs as the Kagman Little Lions edged Hustlers II, 18-15.
Deleon Guerrero also tripled. Michael Muna got the win pitching 1 1/3 innings allowing four earned runs on four this with one strikeout and three walks.
The loss spoiled Jonathan Villagomez’ three-run inside-the-park home run in Hustlers II’s eight-run sixth inning rally. David Lizama went 4-for-4 with two runs, four RBIs, and three doubles.
[B]Hustlers I 11, Survivors 1[/B]A.J. Lizama struck out a season-high 10 batters as the UMDA Hustlers I breezed past the Martha’s Store Survivors, 11-1.
Lizama pitched five innings giving up one earned run on two hits fanning 10 and walking two more in an 82-pitch effort. He also went 2-for-3 scoring twice with a double.
Jesus Celes and Khobby Kaipat combined for 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and five RBIs.
In the final game, defending champion SaipanCell Patriots won by default against DPS Dare JPO Enforcers. It was the third straight no-show game by the Enforcers.
[B]JUNIOR LEAGUELion Hearts 4, Fielders 1[/B]
Leroy Regis had a no-relief job on the mound as the Kagman Lion Hearts defeated the Fielders, 4-1.
Regis gave up an unearned run on six hits with seven strikeouts, and three walks.
Leo Blas had a two-RBI double in the fourth to allow Richard Dela Cruz and Greg Iskawa to score the go ahead runs.
[B]Ol’Aces 7, Jets 3[/B]On Saturday, the UMDA Ol’Aces handed the Jets of Juan S. Tenorio its third loss in 11 games, 7-3.
Lamarc Iguel went the distance surrendering two earned runs on six hits striking out seven batters while walking one.
[B]BIG LEAGUEHustlers 6, Aztecs 5[/B]
Tyrone Cabrera and Joel Satur combined for 4-for-8 in batting with four runs as the Hustlers nipped the UMDA Aztecs, 6-5.
Cabrera also had a triple and an RBI while Josh Arriola went 3-for-4 with one run scored.
John Mafnas pitched a complete game allowing four earned runs on nine hits striking out four and walking none in 97 pitches thrown.
The Sablan Topline Falcons on Tanapag won by default against the PTI Dolphins on Sunday.
