Two repeat as Kids XTEARRA winners

Maxi Braig and Nuri Gutzwiller-Malakut returned to the winners’ circle of their respective age groups in the second edition of the Kids XTEARRA Triathlon Saturday at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool grounds.

Braig and Gutzwiller-Malakut continue to dominate their respective divisions with another amazing finishes in the 9-10 and 11-12 age groups.

Braig completed the 200m swim, 800m bike, and 400m run in 12 minutes and 56 seconds, while Gutzwiller-Malakut compiled a time of 12:55 in the 300m swim, 800m bike, and 400m run.

Andrew Kimball placed second to Braig in the 9-10 division with a combined time of 13:17 while Misaki Cramer came in third with 15:17. Bryce Daly swam 3:59, biked 7:23, and ran 4:50 for a 16:12 total.

Kento Akimaru bested Cole Chambers and Steven Goodwin in the boys’ 8-and-under division, while Kazumi Otake, who tried his first individual race, topped the girls’ side.

Akimaru timed in at 8:33 in the 100m swim, 300m bike, and 300m run distance of the 8-and-under class. Chambers clocked in at 10:05 followed by Goodwin’s 10:23. Otake was the second fastest finisher in the division with a total time of 9:55.

It was Otake’s first individual triathlon race after winning last month’s relay with Pia Tenorio.

Race organizer Michael Stewart congratulated all participants and thanked all parents and volunteers that helped him made the race safe for the kids. He also thanked the Marianas Resort & Spa for the use of the venue, and Topnotch and Saipan World Resort for the post-race prizes.

The next Kids XTEARRA Triathlon is scheduled on the morning of June 8, Sunday, at the Marpi pool grounds.
