Finalists named in NMC biz concept contest

The NMC Small Business Development Center and Business Department will be hosting the finals for the 3rd Annual NMC Business Concept Competition today, May 2, from 2pm to 5pm in Building V (Business Department) Room 215.

From the original eight teams that fielded business proposals, the finalists were narrowed down to four, who will be presenting today in front of a panel of three judges from the local banking community.

The finalists are (in alphabetical order) Coconut Putt, Fill It Up, Marianas Skates, and Nova, LLC.

-Coconut Putt is a proposed miniature golf course.

-Fill It Up is an alternative fuel supplier and gas station chain that will be sourcing fuel from Malaysia and competing against Shell and Mobil.

-Marianas Skates is a proposed roller skating rink with snack bar, games and other entertainment.

-Nova LLC is a proposed arcade with snack bar.

The team that wins first place gets the $1,000 prize. The second place team will get $750, the third place team will get $500, while the fourth place team gets the $250 prize.

All eight teams are from the Introduction to Business (MG 231) classes.

The other four business concepts were Goo Goo Baby Store, a proposed retail store specializing in children’s clothes, toys, and accessories; Micronesian Beer Brewery, a proposed micro-brewery using the beer brewing equipment from the former Brew Haus Brewery next to Coffee Care; Pacific Utility Company, proposed alternative energy company using wind and ocean wave energy; and Saipan’s Finest, a proposed resort with bungalows on the water with glass floors.
