Museum donates parchment scroll to Eucon
The Creation Museum, which is based in Dallas, Texas, is donating a parchment scroll dated from 1500 B.C. to the Eucon International College.
The valuable parchment scroll, which was made out of sheepskin during the Middle Ages, includes a section of the Old Testament manuscript.
According to college president Christian Wei, the Creation Museum’s architect, Rev. Gary Zimmerman, is on island for a two-week visit to present the scroll and to do a lecture on Hebrew manuscripts, writings and preservations as well as Israel findings.
Wei said the college is encouraging all members of the community to take part in the lecture and have a chance to see the parchment scroll.
“In a Jewish synagogue, people can only look at the scrolls but they are not allowed to touch them. I’m encouraging all Jewish people in the community and everyone else to have a chance to not just look at this scroll, but to touch it and actually hold it,” Wei said.
The Creation Museum in Texas is the first museum in the world to have completed the entire collection of the Old Testament manuscripts.
“Rev. Gary has been collecting manuscripts for many years and now his foundation is the first in the world to have completed the Old Testament. It really is an honor to have him come all the way and speak to us,” Wei said.
He added that Zimmerman’s visit to Saipan is that of a timely one as May 1 marks the anniversary of the Holocaust, the genocide of approximately six million European Jewish men, women and children during World War II.
It was part of a program of deliberate extermination planned and executed by the Nazi regime in Germany led by Adolf Hitler.
Wei is encouraging everyone to take part in the two-week event and to learn more about the Old Testament.
“In order for us to understand the New Testament, we have to first understand the Old Testament,” Wei said.
The lecture is from April 30 to May 9 from 5:pm to 8:30pm at the Eucon International College.
Admission is free and everybody is welcome.
