After months of planning, practice and preparation, on April 16–17, Rota High School Students visited Sinapalo Elementary, Rota Junior High, Escuelan De Borja San Fransisco and Grace Christian Academy to show “On the Sasanhaya Reef,” a locally produced puppet show production focusing on marine conservation. Illustrating traditional Chamorro themes, the message conveys that we should all think about how our own behavior affects the future health of our coral reefs and fisheries. The puppet show was sponsored by US Fish and Wildlife Service, CNMI’s Coral Reef Initiative, Division of Environmental Quality and Rota High School. Many thanks to Liz Manibusan, Lihla Noori and Scotty Moen for working so hard to guide the students in producing this exceptional marine educational event. The puppet show is currently being aired on Rota’s Channel 5, and copies will be shared with Saipan and Guam environmental agencies.
