Rota charter passengers to stay an average of 4 days
Passengers arriving on three charter flights to Rota during Japan’s Golden Week will stay on the island an average of five days, according to Pacific Development Inc. president Yoichi Matsumura.
Matsumura, whose company is operating the charters brought in by Continental Airlines, said that tourists aboard the inaugural flight on April 27 will stay on the islands for four days and three nights.
Meanwhile, the charters that will arrive at the CNMI’s southernmost chain on April 30 and May 4 will spend five days and four nights on Rota.
He said that since the three flights are fully booked, he expects the 465 visitors from Japan to visit Rota’s historical sites as well as the bird sanctuary and take part in snorkeling tours.
“The main target of our visitors is to see the nature of Rota that is not available in Japan,” said Matsumura.
In addition, the PDI official said that Rota Mayor Joseph S. Inos is planning to hold a “street market” in Songsong Village similar to Saipan’s Thursday event at the Paseo de Marianas to facilitate local cultural exchange and experience for the visitors.
Inos is also expected to head the welcome activities at the Rota International Airport tarmac for all three charter flights.
Matsumura, for his part, said that he will fly to Rota during the weekend along with his staff that includes general managers Masanori Takahashi and Gordon Marciano, assistant general managers Takeshi Okawa (for group and package division) and Maho Miyakoshi (for customer service division).
KNT Kinki Nippon Tourist, PDI’s parent company, announced in February that it will bring in 40 new charter flights to Rota in the next couple of years.
The Rota charter flight are expected to bring in some 8,000 tourists to Rota in about a year. KNT has chartered Continental Airlines to bring in the new Rota flights. Continental Airlines is planning to use its 155-seater Boeing 737 aircraft to service the island.
