The LTR Status Working Group reminds the public and invites everyone to the Community Discussion Forum at Koblerville Community Center at 6pm, Thursday, April 24, 2008.

The topic is “What are your views on a possible longer-term residence status for qualified foreign workers.” Issues for discussion include who would qualify, relationship to federalization, economic benefits of the granting such a status, conditions, requirements to qualify, and benefits and burdens of the status.

This is the Community Discussion Forum originally scheduled for last week but postponed due to CUC’s load shedding schedule. This forum is especially for the benefit of residents in the villages of San Antonio, Koblerville, Chalan Piao, Chalan Kanoa, Susupe, and Oleai, but is open to all.

Anticipated speakers include Dekada Movement counsel Stephen C. Woodruff; Maya Kara (president of the CNMI Bar Association, former acting Attorney General, former governor’s legal counsel, former lieutenant governor’s legal counsel, and former House legal counsel); and Rep. Tina Sablan.

Kara emphasizes that she is involved and will speak only for herself, in her personal capacity, and not as a representative of the government, any clients, or any special interest group.

Other speakers may be added, and there will be extensive opportunity for questions, answers, and general discussion. (PR)
