Red Sox cage Enforcers in shutout
The Bank of Saipan Red Sox made short work of the DPS Dare JPO of Rep. Diego T. Benavente scoring a 12-0 shutout in yesterday’s Majors division game in the Saipan Little League at the Miguel Basa “Tan Ge’ Pangelinan Field.
Alex Monkeya threw 86 pitches in the game and nearly blew the shutout in the top of the fourth after putting two runners on base. He forced Brandon Regis and Matthew Tenorio to consecutive ground outs on a 1-3 and 6-3 putout plays for two quick outs.
He gave up back-to-back walks to Joe Gilnafred and Cedric Camacho as the Enforcers nearly scored but managed to preserve the shutout when he forced Patrick Somorang to swing and miss on a high fast ball for the third out.
Monkeya pitched four one-hit innings striking out six batters while walking seven more.
Tiana Osada went 2-for-3 scoring twice and had a triple and three RBIs while Nathan Sablan went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.
The Red Sox also used a five-run first inning as enough cushion to secure their eighth win in 10 games to stay close behind the 8-1 records of the league-leading SaipanCell Patriots and the Happy Market Ol’Aces.
On Tuesday, Ol’Aces’ defense helped them squeeze out a 4-3 victory against the AA Enterprise/TCC World Braves of Tanapag.
Ol’Aces only need one more out to end the game after T.J. Sablan struck out Haime Blas and J.J. Lifoifoi.
Logan Martin then connected on Sablan’s 1-2 pitch to put the Braves’ tying run on second base.
Ol’Aces got the third out when Martin failed to beat the tag as catcher Shane Guerrero threw to third baseman Jeremy Lizama for a 2-5 putout play.
Lizama pitched 4.2 innings in his second start for Ol’Aces giving up one hit with nine strikeouts and five walks.
Sablan pitched the last 1.1 innings to close out for Ol’Aces allowing one hit with three strikeouts and no walks.
Zachary Yamagishi and Dave Matagolai combined for 4-for-6 in batting with two runs and two RBIs, Yamagashi also had a triple while Matagolai doubled in the game.
