Salty Boyz rule BASA softball league
Darwin Masaharu went perfect at the plate while Leo Bobai pitched a complete game shutout to help Salty Boyz coast to a 6-0 blanking of PTI 83 in Game 3 of the finals of the Belau Amateur Softball Association Masters Softball League yesterday at the Dandan Elementary School Field.
Masaharu went 3-for-3 scoring twice and had three RBIs in Game 3 to help Salty Boyz secure the title. Masaharu’s exploits in the three-game series earned him the finals most valuable player trophy.
He went 8-for-9 in the three games he played with four runs scored and eight RBIs.
Salty Boyz won Game 1, 6-3, but PTI 83 tied the series at 1-1 with a 7-5 decision in the second game.
PTI 83s bid to win the crown ended with a thud when Leo Bobai shut them down in Game 3. Bobai pitched a complete game shutout limiting their foes to four hits with one strikeout and one walk.
He held the PTI 83 batters to either fly outs or hit grounders and line drives, which the Salty Boyz defense found no difficulty in fielding.
PTI 83 still has a chance to rally back into the game but Bobai forced Newman Techur to fly out to Luis Ngiraikelau at left field then Jess Omar grounded out on a 5-3 putout play for the second out.
Inos Yamada singled to right but he failed to score and was left stranded at first when Jack Diaz, on a 2-2 pitch, swung on Bobai’s fifth offering striking out to end the game.
PTI 83s bats went into full swing in the second game as they prevented Salty Boyz from sweeping the best-of-three title series. Yamada and Wayne Techur led the PTI 83 attack combining for 4-for-6 in batting with two RBIs.
Techur also scored a run while Perry Besong went 2-for-2 with a run. Larry Sebaklim, 1-for-3, had a double.
Masaharu went 3-for-3 for Salty Boyz as he and Bobai nearly helped Salty Boyz came back from a 7-3 deficit to nearly sweep the series.
Masaharu also scored twice and had three RBIs including a two-RBI single in the first inning when Salty Boyz opened up with a 3-0 lead. Bobai went 2-for-3 with a triple.
Salty Boyz nearly rallied in Game 2 when Percy Omechelang led off with a single but Tim Sakuma hit an infield fly to a waiting Paul Camacho at first base for the first out.
Knee Tutii struck out on a full count as he foul tipped Besong’s sixth pitch highball for the second out. Steve Brel fly out to Ed Kapileo for the third out that ended the game.
Omechelang’s pitching backed up by the consistent hits from Bobai and Masaharu gave Salty Boyz a 6-3 win in Game 1.
Omechelang pitched a complete game when he held PTI 83 to 7-for-38 in batting for a .250 average with two strikeouts and four walks. Bobai went 3-for-3 with three runs with Masaharu going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
In the battle for third, Poland Yamada and Mars Blanco combined for 4-for-7 at bat with three RBIs to lead Che’lus to a 10-4 triumph against Red Torch.
Yamada also had a double while pitcher Ray Aldan gave up three earned runs on 12 hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
Aldan gave an RBI triple to Roland Martin in Red Torch’s four-run third inning rally.
