Health Day highlights Science Fair Week at SAES
Health Day highlighted the San Antonio Elementary School’s 4th Annual Science Fair week last week.
SAES Health Day Committee chair Hilda Rios said the school is glad to see the whole school participating in the event.
“Other schools have only the lower grades or just the fifth or sixth graders that take part in their school’s Science Fair Week, but we wanted find a way to get the whole school involved,” Rios said.
Kindergarten to the sixth grade, which were broken into groups, scoured the SAES campus learning about safety and health facts from various government agency presenters.
Presenters included the Department of Public Safety, Emergency Management Offices, Department of Public Health Immunization Program, DPH HIV/AIDS Program, American Red Cross, Northern Marianas College-CREES, Northern Mariana Protection & Advocacy Services Inc., Community Guidance Center, Division of Sports and Recreation, Division of Environmental Quality, Division of Youth Services, among others.
Health Day, Rios said, “is a great way for our students to learn the importance of different government agencies and what they do for our community.”
The school also held a school-wide Science Fair competition wherein students from all grades submitted their science projects to vie for the spot to which his or her project will represent the school for the island-wide competition.
SAES entries were judged by the DEQ’s Kathleen Hermann, NMC-CREES Patricia Coleman, DPH’s Margaret Aldan, Latisha Lochabay, and Tanta Tenorio.
