NMC assists over 400 at Cash for College workshop

The Northern Marianas College assisted over 400 participants at the recently held Cash for College workshop that was intended to assist students and their parents maximize scholarship opportunities currently available to students seeking to obtain a college education.
At the workshop, participants received personal, step-by-step assistance in completing college financial aid forms for the various scholarships and grants including the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, the Saipan Higher Education Financial Aid, the CNMI Scholarship, the Tan Siu Lin Foundation Scholarship, and the Businesswoman of the Year Scholarship. Other scholarships featured at the event were the College Access Challenge Grant scholarship and the Gates Millennium Scholarship.
In addition, staff members from the college’s Office of Admissions and Records were present to provide information and assistance with the NMC application process.
The approximately 428 workshop participants also received fee waivers for the NMC application and placement tests for the upcoming the Spring 2012 semester.
Many of these participants were students from different high schools, including Marianas, Kagman, and Saipan Southern high schools. Some of the participants also included parents of students and students currently enrolled at NMC.
“We are very pleased to have another great turn out of students attending the Cash for College workshop,” said NMC dean of Student Services Leo Pangelinan. “It was very rewarding to see so many students taking advantage of this opportunity to find out what financial aid resources are available and how to apply for them.”
For students who missed the recent Cash for College workshop, Pangelinan recommends visiting NMC’s Financial Aid Office to get assistance in filling up forms.
The free Cash for College was made possible by the financial support of the U.S. Department of Education’s College Access Challenge Grant Program. This federal program aims to increase the number of students from underrepresented minority populations enrolled in college. (PR)
