A generator problem at the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.’s Power Plant 1 has required Engine No. 6 to be shut down for the mechanical and electrical staff to perform necessary repairs.

As a result of these repairs, CUC said the power plant would not be capable to generate the required electrical power to adequately meet the island’s demand. Therefore, load shedding is required.

While these repairs continue, rotating power outages will be implemented. Traffic lights, water and wastewater services will also be affected.

CUC stressed that the rotating outage schedule assumes that no further generator malfunctions occur during these emergency repairs.

“Should the Second Partial outages of the grids be insufficient to stabilize the generation capacity, the First Partial and additional feeders not listed may also be affected,” said the utility in a statement. (CUC)
