A 33-year-old man who reportedly caused a pileup involving four cars in 2004 was arrested on Tuesday night, this time for allegedly stealing a case of beer from a store.

Oscar Porras Jr. was served with an arrest warrant in San Vicente for theft.

At a hearing on Thursday, Superior Court associate judge David A. Wiseman allowed Porras’ temporary release on a bail of $100 cash and $900 unsecured bond.

Wiseman set a review hearing on Dec. 5, 2011 at 1:30pm for Porras’ 2004 traffic case.

Police reports state that officers responded to a theft case at the Grand Market in Lower Navy Hill on Sept. 29, 2011 at 7:30pm.

Police investigation showed that a man had entered the Grand Market and put a case of beer and a loaf of bread on the counter, while carrying another case of beer in his left arm. He then ran out of the store with the case of beer in his arm without paying for it and jumped onto the bed of a pickup truck that sped off.

Detective Kevin R. Maratita reviewed the store’s surveillance footage on Oct. 3 and he said he identified Porras as the suspect. Maratita said he personally knows Porras as the suspect is a regular of the Saipan Electronic Dart Association League.

The detective said he also identified the getaway vehicle as a two-toned silver/black Toyota Hilux pickup truck.

Investigators are now looking into the possibility that Porras may have also been involved in other theft of cases of beer in other stores.

Investigators are also looking into whether Porras was also with his cousin, Gustavo Ybanez Jr., when Ybanez robbed a female Japanese tourist last week in western Garapan.

In that robbery, the tourist suffered injuries after she was dragged several meters away by a Nissan Pathfinder when she chased the suspect, Ybanez, who had grabbed her bag.
