Tournament of Fools Golf to push through today
The Inaugural Dan Hughes Memorial Tournament of Fools Golf Tournament will push through today, April 1, at the Laolao Bay Golf Course east course.
The tournament is in memory of Dan Hughes, former owner of Coffee Care and friends with many in Micronesia.
According to one of the tournament organizers, Richard Pierce, Hughes’ 10 years of tournaments were traditionally customer appreciation events, without the usual trips to Hawaii and Guam, or cash prizes.
However, Pierce said the coveted Tournament of Fools jackets will be awarded along with Hughes’ traditional favorite, the Big Salami, to the team with the worst score. All other prizes are minimal in value and donated by the participants.
The Inaugural Dan Hughes Memorial Tournament of Fools Golf Tournament will adopt a four-person best-ball format.
Proceeds—past expenses for green fees, banquet costs, and some refreshments—will be donated to a charity to be named at the dinner. The entrance fee is $100, while those wanting to attend just the dinner afterwards will pay a banquet fee only.
Tournament slots are limited at the Kagman golf facility due to heavy course play.
