Survivors survive Ol’Aces rally
The National Office Supply Survivors foiled the Happy Market/L&Y Corp. Ol’Aces’ comeback bid to score an 11-8 win in yesterday’s match in the Majors division of the Saipan Little League at the Miguel Basa “Tan Ge” Pangelinan Field.
The Survivors’ win created a four-way logjam for the lead as they tied their victims, defending champion SaipanCell Patriots, and the vastly improved Bank of Saipan Red Sox with similar 5-1 slates.
The Survivors scored three runs each in the first to third innings as enough cushion and even enjoyed an 11-3 lead after four complete innings before Ol’Aces threaten in the bottom of the fifth with five runs.
Poland Masaharu pitched 3.1 innings allowing two earned runs on two hits—including an inside-the-park home run to Justin Lizama in the third—while striking out five batters and walking two.
Jayvan Rechur pitched 2.3 innings in relief giving up four earned runs on five hits—including a three-run inside-the-park home run to Joseph Angui in the fifth inning—with four strikeouts and one walk.
Lizama nearly led the Ol’Aces’ comeback when he went 2-for-4 with a run, a triple, and a two-RBI inside-the-park homer.
On Saturday, the UMDA Hustlers I needed 10 innings to squeeze out a 9-8 win over the Red Sox to snap the Bank of Saipan supported team’s five-game winning run.
With one out in the bottom of the 10th, Jesus Celes, who walked, scored the game-winning run on a Miko Gabianza single.
In other Major division matches, the Patriots scored their second straight win with a 10-0 shutout victory over the PTI Dolphins, while the Kagman Little Lions of Reps. Ed Salas and Rosmond Santos and Cil Ada eclipsed the Shell Marianas Suns, 12-8.
