DD Council cites advocates of the year
The CNMI Council on Developmental Disabilities recognized their 2008 advocates of the year during a luncheon and awards ceremony on Saturday at Pacific Islands Club.
Awards went to:
-Community Member of the Year, Bud White;
-Public Entity of the Year, Aqua Resort Club;
-Private Business Advocate of the Year, Green Meadow Day Care;
-Employer Advocate of the Year, Pacific Islands Club Saipan;
-Transportation Advocate of the Year, Saipan Call-a-Ride;
-Family Advocate of the Year, Larissa Larson and Marissa F. Guerrero;
-Self Advocate of the Year, Jason Teregeyo;
-Advocate of the Year, Larissa Larson; and
-Educator Advocate of the Year, Ron Calvo.
The purpose of the DD Council is to bring about necessary systematic change and enhance the quality of life and opportunities for people with developmental disabilities in the CNMI to become independent, productive, integrated and fully included in the community.
The Council is also responsible for ensuring that service networks are providing people with developmental disabilities the necessary programs that would enable them to reach their maximum potential.
The awards ceremony concluded the March 2008 Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.
