‘DPS personnel expect OT cut, no promotions’
Department of Public Safety Acting Commissioner Claudio K. Norita said yesterday that DPS personnel should not expect any promotions under the current financial condition of the government
Norita said that, in fact they will be cutting or reducing overtime.
“I sat down with DPS employees last week and I was very clear to each everyone of them that I don’t see any light in regards to promotion at the end of the tunnel,” he said.
Norita said there are some issues of promotion among certain personnel, but that happened before he was appointed acting commissioner.
He assured that promotion issues would not happen under his administration.
“I understand where they’re standing and the financial concerns they have. But I also told them we’re going to be cutting overtime. We will be reducing overtime,” Norita said.
“They need to be also responsible in the financial life that they live. They need to stay within their means,” he said.
The commissioner said it should be a mutual agreement between the DPS administration and the employees.
“They need to understand that, one way or the other, overtime will be cut or reduced. One way or the other, there is no light at the end of the tunnel for any promotions,” he pointed out.
“If it occurs it is probably for a minimal amount, but it’s out of my hands. If there is an infusion of $20 million somewhere in the system, I will be the first one to grab some of those money for DPS,” he added.
