HAGÅTÑA, Guam—First Hawaiian Bank is warning the public and its merchant customers about a phone scam involving a telemarketing company that has been calling merchants and identifying itself as First Hawaiian Bank.

The telemarketer, claiming to be calling from First Hawaiian Bank, informs the merchant that their credit card terminal equipment is about to be expired and can be renewed for $99. They then proceed to request the merchant’s bank account and routing number to have the monthly renewal charge deducted from their account.

As a reminder, First Hawaiian Bank said it does not request account number information, bank routing numbers, or a customer’s PIN number by phone.

“The bank is reminding people who think that they have received a suspicious phone call to not sign up for any of the services offered by phone,” FHB said.

If they suspect that they have received a fraudulent phone call, they should contact their banker, the nearest branch or call First Hawaiian Bank’s 24-hour Customer Service Center at 1-800-545-6300.

First Hawaiian Bank ($12.6 billion assets) was founded in 1858 and is Hawaii’s oldest and largest bank. It has 58 branches in Hawaii, three on Guam and two in Saipan. It is a subsidiary of BancWest Corporation (www.bancwestcorp.com), a financial holding company. (FHB)
