Learn about the Marianas’ geo-energy resources
“Does Saipan have underground renewable energy potential? What about our Northern Islands, including nearby Anatahan or further away Pagan?” “I’ve heard hot water was discovered from a well under Gualo Rai. Is this true?” “Someone told me the Internet has a brand new public-available map showing Saipan’s rock types, earth formations, and fault lines. Where can I get this?”
These questions and others of local and regional “earth science” interest are part of a public talk to be shared by visiting SMU geoscientist Dr. James Quick. This is a chance to learn about such critical questions first-hand.
Tomorrow evening, Nov. 22 at 6:30pm, come to the American Memorial Park auditorium to learn more about the island’s geology from one of our region’s foremost experts. The talk is sponsored as a special meeting of the Asia Pacific Academy of Sciences, Science Education, and Environmental Management, or APASEEM. Seating at the park’s auditorium is limited so be on time or come early. Everyone is invited. An interactive question-and-answer period will follow Quick’s presentation.
Since 1994 Academy meetings have been arranged to bring key issues before the Commonwealth public and encourage students with a potential interest in a science or environmental management field to network with scientists and learn how to get more involved.
