Deadline nears for Tan Siu Lin Foundation Scholarship
The Northern Marianas College would like to remind students that the deadline to apply for the scholarship offered by the Tan Siu Lin Foundation is Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011.
The Tan Siu Lin Foundation recently announced that it will be providing 10 students of the Northern Marianas College $1,000 scholarships that can be applied to the spring and/or summer 2012 semesters. The scholarship program aims to award five full-time students pursuing an Associate’s in Applied Science degree in Hospitality Management, and five full-time students pursuing other degrees at NMC. In addition to hospitality management, the college offers degrees in business, liberal arts, nursing, natural resources management, criminal justice, and education.
“We are very proud to offer this scholarship to help students in the CNMI pursue their education at the Northern Marianas College,” said TSL Foundation president and chief of operations Jerry Tan. “We need to build our local workforce with skilled and knowledgeable individuals and this scholarship is one of the ways the Tan Siu Lin Foundation is advancing that mission.”
The Tan Holdings Foundation was formed in 2002 and was renamed after the company’s founder and chairman, Dr. Tan Siu Lin. Through the years, the Tan Siu Lin Foundation has launched initiatives and built trusted partnerships with a diverse array of individuals, families, corporations, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies. These partners represent many different backgrounds and income levels. The main mission of the organization is to better serve the regions in which they operate thus making the communities a better place to live.
“We would like to thank the Tan Siu Lin Foundation for their continued support of higher education in the CNMI,” said NMC president Sharon Y. Hart. “This scholarship will definitely help our students move toward accomplishing their educational and professional goals.”
The scholarships are based on merit and will be awarded to the recipient on the basis of the candidate’s community involvement, academic background, and letters of recommendation. The essay and interview will also play a key role in the final selection of scholarship recipients.
