CGK Ballers, Next Generation win Halloween 3-on-3 caging

CGK Ballers and Next Generation reigned supreme in their respective U14 and U12 divisions of Rollers Basketball Club’s 2011 GCDC Halloween 3-on-3 Tricks or Treat Youth Basketball Tourney held over the weekend at the Garapan Basketball Court.
The event was originally scheduled over the holiday weekend, but was postponed due to rain.
The Ballers downed the GF Rollers, 20-16, in the U14 finals held after Next Generation’s 16-10 victory over Dynamite in the U12 championship.
The Ballers are composed of Ted Vivero, Emerson Feria, and Irvyn Malonzo, while Next Generation is made up of Kyle Rios, Jethro Cruz, Wilfredo Francisco, and Jerald Castillo.
The U14 title match was neck and neck after the first half as the two teams felt each other out. At the break, the count was knotted up at 6-all and both teams picked up the pace in the second half.
Vivero came alive with six points in the clutch to go with a pair of buckets in support from Feria and Malonzo.
Rollers’ J.P. Iglesias scrambled for seven markers at crunch time, but came up a little short.
He would finish with a game-high nine points, while Malonzo’s eight led the Ballers.
In the U12 match, Next Generation managed an 8-6 lead at halftime and held strong in the second half. Kyle Rios scored the first two baskets of the game and capped off the final field goal to secure the victory.
Dynamite’s C.J. Morales was held to four points early on and was neutralized in the clutch.
“Rain hindered the start up of the tourney, but we were grateful for good weather this past weekend and the kids had a lot of fun. I’d like to thank House Vice Speaker Felicidad T. Ogumoro and Rep. Edmund Villagome, National Office Supply, Micronesian Brokers Inc., Josephine Kapileo, Jerry Tan and the Tan Siu Lin Foundation, and IT&E for helping sponsor the event. I also want to thank all of the parents for their unfailing support,” stated RBC head coach Joe Diaz in an email.
U14 Finals
CGK Ballers 20 – Malonzo 8, E. Feria 6, Vivero 6.
GF Rollers 16 – Iglesias 9, Ano 4, Camacho 3.
Scoring by halves: 6-6, 20-16.
U12 Finals
Next Generation 12 – Rios 6, Francisco 4, Cruz 2.
Dynamite 10 – Feria 4, Morales 4, Abobo 2.
Scoring by halves: 8-6, 12-10.
