Local artists will have more time to prepare for the 2011 Island Artist and Christmas Crafts Exhibit as the opening date has been moved to Nov. 22.

The Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture, which organizes the annual exhibit, had previously announced that the exhibit will open on Nov. 15 at the Hyatt Regency Saipan Lobby Function Room.

Arts in Education and Festival coordinator Parker Y. Yobei said the launch of the monthlong exhibit was pushed back to a later date due to venue confirmation.

“We sincerely thank Hyatt Regency Saipan for their assistance to the Arts Council in securing a venue for one of our annual exhibits,” said Yobei. “We are waiting for their management to finalize and confirm the venue.”

Yobei is optimistic that the rescheduling of the event will pave the way for more artists to sign up for the exhibit.

“We are hopeful that more local artists will sign up and participate in the Christmas exhibit since they will have more time to prepare for the event,” he said.

Every year, the arts council sponsors three major exhibits: a women’s exhibit in March, Pacifica arts and cultural exhibit in September, and the Island Artist and Christmas Craft Exhibit in December.
