The Superior Court has imposed a 27-day prison term on a man who became violent after he refused to take his medication for mental illness.

Associate judge Joseph N. Camacho sentenced Mariano W. Rasiang last week to six months in prison, all suspended except for 27 days, for disturbing the peace, with credit for the 27 days he has already served in jail. This means the 35-year-old Rasiang will no longer serve further jail time.

Rasiang was placed on supervised probation for a year and required to pay a $100 probation fee and $25 court assessment fee. Rasiang was also directed to seek anger management/substance abuse treatment at the Community Guidance Center.

Camacho also barred Rasiang from possessing or consuming any alcoholic drinks during his one-year probation.

He was also ordered to stay away from his father and his house.

According to the plea agreement, Rasiang’s father called for police assistance on Dec. 15, 2011, because his son had become violent, slamming the house’s doors, hitting cars, and shouting.

The father told police that Rasiang has a mental illness and has refused to take his medication for about six months.

The father disclosed that the defendant hears voices, and that he is scared to return to his house when his son is there because he has threatened to kill him and his wife.

Police said Rasiang has two children who currently live with his father.
