A three-member team from the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges are on island for a three-day visit to the Northern Marianas College.
The team is here to validate the contents of the report the college submitted to the commission on Oct. 15 as a requirement to address its probation status.
Saipan Tribune learned that the group has been meeting since Monday with NMC president Sharon Hart and her management team, which assists the members in their campus inspection. The group also had a series of meetings with students and employees, it was learned.
Today, the team is expected to meet with the Board of Regents at 10am.
Regents chair Juan Lizama refused to comment on the team’s visit, citing the commission’s confidentiality rule.
The college, in a statement to Saipan Tribune, declined to confirm the visiting group’s schedule.
“Due to ACCJC’s Policy on Public Disclosure, NMC must maintain an appropriate level of confidentiality with ACCJC at this juncture in the accreditation process. As such, NMC is unable to provide any further details about the visiting team,” the NMC statement reads.
It said that the college will make the visiting team report and other accreditation documents accessible on the NMC website once the commission indicates that it is appropriate to do so.
NMC’s report on Oct. 15 build upon the information the institution submitted in prior months. This report presents evidence of its continuing and sustainable efforts to comply with accrediting requirements and standards.
NMC’s show-cause status was lifted in July and the college was placed on a less severe sanction of probation due to still unaddressed deficiencies.
