Sailor earns Navy’s new warfare device

[B]SANTA RITA, Guam[/B]—A sailor with Mobile Security Squadron 7 will be the first to don the Navy’s newest warfare qualification, the Expeditionary Warfare device.
It has been six years since the Navy created a new warfare device. The new qualification will recognize sailors who have successfully completed the Expeditionary Warfare program, which focuses on several skills to include weapon qualifications and maintenance, marksmanship, land navigation, and field communications.
Petty Officer 2nd Class Carl Hurtt, a master-at-arms assigned to MSS-7, will be pinned the warfare device by Rear Adm. Donald Bullard, commander of Navy Expeditionary Combat Command, during a ceremony Dec. 15 on U.S. Naval Base Guam.
The squadron falls under NECC, which was created in January, bringing Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Naval Coastal Warfare, Riverine forces, Combat Camera Atlantic, the Expeditionary Combat Readiness Center, Navy Expeditionary Logistics Support functions and the Seabees under one umbrella. NECC integrates all warfighting requirements for expeditionary combat and combat support elements. This transformation allows for standardized training, manning and equipping of Sailors who will participate in the maritime security operations and the Global War on Terrorism as part of the joint force.
