Commonwealth paddlers to unite soon under COPRA
During the successful hosting of the 8th Micronesian Cup, local paddling teams worked together in an effort to put Saipan’s best foot forward for the first time since the Micronesian Games.
Though every canoe in their fleet requires all six paddlers to work as one, the hometown teams rarely combine their efforts for the betterment of their sport. That is going to change in the near future as the CNMI Outrigger Paddling Race Association’s mission is to act as the sport’s governing body to cover all of their organizations.
Local paddler and race organizer Robert Jordan has been working behind the scenes for several months in order to transform COPRA from an idealistic anagram into a tangible organization.
His hard work will payoff next week when the first official COPRA meeting gets underway on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 6pm in the conference room of the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
The meeting was originally scheduled to take place this evening, but Jordan said that the organization opted to change the date due to a number of conflicts.
The meeting is not limited to paddlers and anyone interested in learning more about COPRA, wishes to ask questions, or offer comments are invited to contact Jordan via email at saiapanslug@yahoo.com.
