Marpi burglars struck again last week by damaging a vehicle and stealing money and other items belonging to a man who went sightseeing at Bird Island Lookout.

Department of Public Safety acting spokesman Sgt. Thomas A. Blas Jr. said Zhi Ming Liu, 38, lost his brown bag containing $200, CNMI driver’s license, entry permit, and social security card.

Blas said preliminary investigation conducted by Patrol Officer Catherine Pangelinan showed that Liu parked his white Nissan Altima car at the Bird Island Lookout.

Liu and his co-worker went down to the Lookout Point. When they returned after 10 minutes, they discovered that the right passenger window had been shattered and his bag was missing in the vehicle.

DPS recently disclosed that the department has included the problem on Marpi burglars who are victimizing tourists and joggers as among its top priorities.

DPS said police officers are concentrating high police visibility enforcement to address the problem.

A couple of weeks ago, a tourist was robbed by an unidentified young man at Grotto Dive Spot in Marpi. The incident happened at night.

The other week, burglars struck at the Suicide Cliff, breaking into a vehicle belonging to a couple.
Many tourists and joggers had been victimized by burglars operating at the tourist spots in Marpi in the past few months.
