Koreans ready to run for peace
Runners from Korea, Japan, Philippines, and the United States are invited to come together in the name of peace next month as Sports Link, Korea is bringing back the Peace Half-Marathon to commemorate the 61st anniversary of Korea’s liberation, and the founding of the Republic of Korea.
The Marianas Visitors Authority, Korean Tour Association of Saipan, the Segye Times, Kyunghyang Daily News, Asiana Airlines, and Saipan World Resort have joined forces to offer the 13.1-mile challenge, and a large showing of athletes is expected to answer the call.
After a brief warm-up and some stretching, the long-distance runners will begin their southern journey from the American Memorial Park at 6am Dec. 10, as Saipan’s second half marathon of the year,
As with all other major on-island events, organizers are hoping for an outpouring of local support from government and private companies to help make the event a success. The runners will also be appreciative of the volunteers manning all eight of the aid stations for their well wishes and water along the way.
The cost to participate it the half marathon is $20, while those opting for the 10km and 5km races need only part with $10 for the morning workout. All applications must be submitted to Marianas Visitors Authority or Korean Association on Chalan Pale Arnold by the end of the month.
