A public hearing will be held on Rota today on two wage bills pending in the House of Representatives.

Rota residents interested in submitting comments on House Bills 15-45 and 15-166 are urged to attend the public hearing at 5:30pm at the Rota Judicial Complex, said Rep. Crispin Ogo, chairman of the House Committee on Ways and Means.

The Rota public hearing is the third and last in a series of public hearings conducted by the House committee to gather comments on the two bills.

Public hearings were held on Tinian on Oct. 17, 2006 and Saipan on Oct. 31, 2006. Both were sparsely attended.

Authored by Rep. Justo S. Quitugua, House Bill 15-45 seeks to mandate a uniform wage and salary schedule for the staff and personnel of municipal governments.

House Bill 15-166, the latest minimum wage bill, is currently pending in the House of Representatives. Authored by Rep. Joseph Deleon Guerrero, the measure seeks to raise the threshold monthly salary for those workers exempt from the minimum wage requirement from $300 to $350, and gradually raise the minimum wage to $5.25 per hour with the exception of sewers or cutters employed in the garment industry.
