A weak tropical disturbance located just west of Guam continued to move away yesterday from the Marianas, according to the Emergency Management Office.

EMO said high pressure in the wake of this disturbance will maintain mainly dry weather and trade winds for several days.

“Meanwhile…long period northeast swells will dominate the waters through the weekend,” EMO said.

Acting Gov. Timothy Villagomez advised the public yesterday to avoid venturing near reefs and exposed breaches as wind and wave conditions support dangerous rip currents.

Rip currents are life threatening to anyone entering the water, Villagomez said in a special marine advisory.

EMO reported yesterday that, as the tropical disturbance moves further away to the west, this will result in improved weather. EMO said the last batch of showers associated with the weak disturbance was getting ready to leave the Marianas region.

The agency said CNMI residents will experience winds of up to 15 miles per hour with a return to isolated showers and trade winds for the next few days.
