Police arrested late Thursday afternoon the alleged driver of a getaway vehicle used by two men who robbed a man at knifepoint outside Town House in Chalan Kanoa last October.
Police served the arrest warrant on Shane Indalecio Ada, 20, for conspiracy to commit robbery. His bail was set at $10,000 cash. He was brought to the Superior Court yesterday afternoon for a bail hearing.
Ada was actually the first one arrested shortly after the robbery when the victim, a Chinese national, chased the suspects and called police.
Ada allegedly confessed his participation in the crime and identified his companions as Michael Jordan Cabrera, 22, and Franklin Jess Atalig, 20.
Ada was then released as police conducted further investigation.
Police arrested Atalig at his residence in As Lito on Oct. 24, 2011. A Commonwealth Ports Authority officer later caught Cabrera at the Saipan International Airport when he allegedly attempted to flee Saipan to the U.S. mainland. The charges against Atalig and Cabrera are still pending.
Police said that Ada had confessed to planning the robbery with Cabrera and Atalig.
When showed a photo lineup, the victim allegedly identified Cabrera and Atalig as the ones who robbed him in the early morning hours of Oct. 23, 2011.
The victim told the police that he had parked his vehicle outside Town House at 1:15am when the two suspects, later identified as Cabrera and Atalig, got into his car.
The suspect in the backseat choked the victim. The second suspect in the front passenger seat pointed a knife at the victim’s chest and took his wallet, containing $107.
The two suspects then got off, ran to their getaway car parked by the beachside of Aquarius Beach Tower, and drove off.
The victim chased the robbers’ car, while at the same time reporting their location to a police dispatcher.
Responding police officers later intercepted the suspects’ car along Martinez Road. Ada was the only one arrested then as he had already dropped off Cabrera and Atalig near the Ador Restaurant in San Antonio.
Police said the victim identified Cabrera as the one who pointed the knife at him and took his wallet.
Atalig was allegedly the one who choked the victim from behind.
