Duenas, Nathrani lead SAES’ class promotion
A huge banner hung in front of the stage, saying “We Made It”—a fitting summation of last Friday’s graduation rites for some 50 sixth graders of the San Antonio Elementary School, who marked their end-of-the-year promotion rites with exuberant claps for their peers who were awarded honors during the ceremony.
Acting principal Katrina Lizama was joined by Associate Commissioner for Education David Borja on the stage to hand out the students’ awards and congratulate them for a job well done.
A beaming McGarette K. Duenas stood heads and shoulders over his counterparts after garnering the highest award—the Commissioner’s Award. The Principal’s Award went to the statuesque Riya Nathrani, who also got a gold presidential award.
Scores of other students were also recognized with 4th Quarter Awards, Principal’s List, A-Honor Roll, B-Honor Roll, Perfect Attendance, Excellent Self-Control, and the President’s Education Awards (gold and silver).
Despite the merciless heat of the morning sun, parents and relatives came in droves, ducking in and out of the scant shade to give out leis and balloon tokens to their kids who received awards.
The school held its promotion rites at the school stage area, with the sixth graders taking refuge in the shade provided by two tents under the huge flame tree in the middle of the quadrangle.
