The Commonwealth Election Commission and the Office of the Public Auditor will be conducting an ethics presentation for prospective election workers for the 2007 general election.

The Northern Mariana Islands Election Law requires all election workers to attend an ethics presentation to be recommended for appointment as election worker.

Those who attend the ethics presentation will have their names included on the list of prospective election workers. Recognized political parties will then select names from this list for their recommendation to the Election Commission. Those recommended will then be required to attend election workers training a week before election day.

“Since the Commission is considering opening new polling stations for the Nov. 3, 2007 general election, we need to increase the number of prospective election workers. You are thus invited to attend this presentation,” the commission said in a statement.

Additionally, the Election Commission is inviting students attending school abroad to be volunteer workers for the commission.

“If you are a student who will be in the United States in 2007, including the days leading up to the Nov. 3, 2007 general election, you are encouraged to attend this ethics presentation,” the statement said.

Student participants will also receive training on voter registration, absentee voting application procedures and absentee ballot casting procedures after the ethics presentation.

The ethics presentation, and the training for volunteer election workers in the United States, will be held at 9am on Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at the Honorable Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe, Saipan.
