The Rota JROTC Buck Battalion ceremonially relinquished the duties and responsibilities of the Buck’s top leadership position during rites held on May 24 at the Rota Roundhouse.

The event signaled the transfer of the Buck battalion’s leadership from cadet Lt. Col. Sheryl Villanueva to cadet Lt. Col. Kayka Mesngon in preparation for next school year, 2006-2007.

Passing on the battalion flag between the two battalion commanders was Sen. Felix T. Mendiola, who congratulated Mesngon for her selection as the new Buck Battalion commander.

Mendiola also praised Villanueva for her many outstanding accomplishments and the contributions that the battalion had provided to both the school and the Rota community under her watch.

SGM Atalig and JROTC Instructor’s Aide Ivan Mereb also presented a plaque of appreciation to Villanueva for a job well done.

During the second portion of the ceremony, 20 cadets were promoted to the next higher rank for their contribution to the Buck Battalion’s success’ story. Eighteen cadets also received the end of the year prestigious medal for outstanding accomplishments.

Attending the change of command ceremony were former Buck instructor MSG Herman Apatang, resident director of Commerce Henry Atalig, Pi Barcinas and Norbert Mundo from the Veterans Association of Rota and former Municipal Council members Balbina Taisacan and Lucas Mendiola.

“We express our sincere appreciation to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Antonio Mesngon for their support, generosity, and contribution for the dinner buffet,” the battalion said in a statement. (PR)
