Fires hit Tinian Labor office, Saipan barracks
A fire of still unknown cause broke out at the Tinian Department of Labor Monday morning, Saipan Tribune learned yesterday.
No one died in the blaze that occurred between 11am to 12pm.
Tinian Labor resident director Jack Borja confirmed the report. He, however, refused to give more details about it, saying he has to submit his report to the mayor.
Department of Public Safety spokesman Ken Concepcion said DPS Saipan has yet to receive a report from Tinian about the fire.
Saipan Tribune contacted DPS Tinian, but an officer said the fire investigator was out in the field.
A staff at the Tinian Mayor’s Office said the building was not totally burned and in fact some staff at the Labor’s office were observed cleaning the facility yesterday.
Meanwhile, a fire of mysterious origin also burned an abandoned barracks of the former Black Microl Construction in Kannat Tabla Monday afternoon.
The building, which was made of tin and wood materials, was totally burned, witnesses said.
It was an employee of the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. who called DPS about the fire.
Firemen from DPS and Commonwealth Ports Authority responded and quickly extinguished the blaze.
DPS, through the Information Office, has yet to release details about the fire. For almost a month now, the department—for unknown reasons—has stopped providing reports to the media about burglary and all other crimes happening on Saipan. Concepcion refused to comment.
