Plans are underway for an increase in the prices of cooking gas, but it may not be implemented in the immediate future, according to a local retailer of liquefied petroleum gas.

According to DL Corporation manager Joe Digno, its supplier has sent notice of a possible LPG price hike. But it has not been determined when it will become effective.

DL Corporation serves as local retailer for Wushin Corp.

The company’s last price increase occurred in late February 2006 and brought the cost of LPG up by 10 percent.

DL Corp. now sells a 90-pound cylinder at $92. The 50-lb cylinder is sold at $54, while the 20-lb cylinder is at $24. A gallon of cooking gas costs about $4.

The company also adds a $3 fee for delivery.

Digno said that, while there have been LPG price hikes in the world market since February, they were not significant enough to merit a new price increase locally.

“We try to absorb slight increases, rather than passing them on to customers right away. We only raise our prices when our supplier raises their prices,” Digno said.

He added that LPG prices were normally stable during non-winter months.

The demand for LPG rises during the cold months, thus pushing up the price of the product.
