Dressed in little blue caps and gowns, some 18 pupils of the Saipan International School marched center stage to receive their diplomas during the Kindergarten graduation ceremony held Sunday afternoon.
Parents and family members surrounded the stage with cameras flashing as they witnessed the promotion of the pupils to first grade.
In his welcome remarks, SIS Headmaster Dr. Dale Jenkins extended his appreciation to the parents. “I would like to welcome all parents and thank you for trusting your children with us,” he said.
SIS Kindergarten teacher Rachel Carpenter presented awards to each graduate according to their performance throughout the school year. “Every child here [brought] something to this class,” she said.
John Auther received the Leadership Award, while the Perseverant Award went to Peter Tenorio. Recognized for her ability to help others, Alisa Sato earned the Dependable Award.
Graduates were also given the Free Spirit Award, Precise Award, Linguistic Award, Friendship Award, and Diplomatic Award, among others.
Carpenter also shared her appreciation to the parents of the pupils. “I would like to thank the parents. It’s really easy to teach if you have a group of wonderful parents,” she said.
“When they [pupils] came to me, they were shy. Now they’re confident, they’re reading and doing subtraction. I couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful group of kids,” she added.
The pupils performed to Over the Rainbow shortly before the presentation of their portfolios to their parents.
