Parents, teachers, family members, and school officials were on hand Friday night to witness three seniors of Calvary Christian Academy take another big step in their lives.

All eyes were on Priscilla Norman, Ohannes Makdissian, and Kathrene Taylor as the three saw the fruit of their hard work the past four years and received their diplomas.

Each member of the class of 2006 expressed appreciation to all who supported them during their days as high school students, but receiving special recognition were the teachers, who according to Norman, provided them essential tools that will be very helpful in the future.

“These teachers are not just our teachers who teach us with books, they are our guides to guide us with real life challenges,” said Norman, who was also valedictorian of the graduating class. “We need to remember that these teachers are the ones who really do all the work because they have to take the time to give us the work that we so often complain about.”

“I pray that I and my fellow seniors will keep in mind that these teachers played a big part of our learning. They made us responsible every year. As we do go to college, we need to take the responsibility to be diligent and work harder than ever,” Norman said later during her valedictorian address.

Taylor and Makdissian shared similar comments during their turn at the podium, expressing appreciation to their families and teachers.

All three also had special messages for each other, expressing how their experiences as a class and friends will remain with them throughout the future years.

The ceremony began at 7pm with CCA principal Scott Norman welcoming all in attendance and leading everyone in a prayer. The high school faculty then followed with a special song, and after principal Norman read his scripture reading, another special song was sung.

Norman then gave her valedictory address, and the high school faculty again graced the occasion with a poem and another song.

After the “Turning of Tassels,” which signified the official graduating from high school, the three graduates were joined by family and friends for photos shoots and dinner.
