The Marianas Visitors Authority announced that the planned 1st Island Pride Marathon scheduled for June 17, 2006 has been cancelled.

MVA said the cancellation was due to the unexpected pullout of one of Japan’s largest sports associations.

“The MVA apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused those participants who have registered, as well as those who have been training for such event. MVA looks to continue promoting our islands as a prime location for sporting events justified by the success of various sporting events held annually,” said MVA marketing manager Wayne Pangelinan.

Pangelinan added, “We are pleased that those participants who have registered for this event are still keeping their bookings and are traveling to Saipan during this period. The MVA is also grateful of the amount of support received by the community, especially from our MVA members who supported our efforts generously. We will re-evaluate the program and propose one that will garner again the same support received and maximum participation from all markets.” (PR)
